In Tay Ninh's far northwest, where Vietnam leans into Cambodia, a rare thing survives: a lowland forest that still floods, still burns gold in the dry season, and still hosts the birds that need both. Lo Go – Xa Mat National Park — a Ramsar site since 2019 — protects the transition where the Southeast's forests dissolve into the Mekong's wetlands .
Two landscapes in one park
Dry dipterocarp woodland runs into seasonally flooded grasslands and melaleuca swamp along the Vam Co Dong headwaters — a mosaic scarce enough that woolly-necked storks, lesser adjutants and even sarus cranes appear in the records. The forest floor doubles as history: wartime base areas of the Central Office for South Vietnam lie within and beside the park.
