Cloud hunters climbing to Ta Xua pass them without knowing: gnarled hawthorn trees — tao meo — scattered across the high slopes, bearing small, tart apples that the Northwest has treated as both fruit and pharmacy for generations. (You've already met their most famous member: the lonely tree of the cloud-viewpoint photographs.)

(Treat these as traditional beliefs, not prescriptions — enjoyed in moderation, tao meo is simply a delicious habit.)
